Yes, its true! Activision, makers of splendid titles such as MechWarrior 2, The Quake series (with the exception of the first version of Quake), Civilization: Call to Power (1999), Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater (1999), Call of Duty series (2003–), Doom 3 (2004) and Guitar Hero seriesagreed for a merger with makers of Legendary games sucha s StarCraft and Warcraft, as announced on 2nd Dec, 2007.

The details of the merger are as follows:
- The intention to form Activision Blizzard was first announced on December 2, 2007, and the transaction officially closed on July 9, 2008.
- Under the terms of an agreement with Vivendi, Blizzard Entertainment and the other companies that made up Vivendi Games combined with Activision to form a new public company called Activision Blizzard. This union creates a stronger and more diversified company that benefits and strengthens both brands.
- The Blizzard brand name remains the same as it was prior to the combination: Blizzard Entertainment.
- This will not impact Blizzard Entertainment’s games. We remain committed to providing the same high-quality game content and support that we always have. Development on World of Warcraft: Wrath of the Lich King, StarCraft II, Diablo III, and any unannounced games is continuing as it had prior to the creation of Activision Blizzard.
- There won’t be any changes to our company name, logo, packaging, marketing materials, or anything else along those lines.
- Game development at Blizzard Entertainment will continue to operate as it has previously.
- This combination includes every part of each company involved in both the U.S. and abroad.
Also, The newly-merged Activision Blizzard may be planning to cut redundant staffers in areas where there’s overlap with Activision and Vivendi, but the company plans to leave the Blizzard team untouched.
Activision Blizzard CFO Thomas Tippl told MCV that it’d largely be business as usual for Blizzard. “It’s not like we need to go there and fix something,” he said. “Blizzard will continue to operate as they have done in the past – fairly independently.
