The heart and soul of any Gaming system is the Graphic Card. And there are two major companies that provide the soul, namely Nvidia and Ati (now acquired by AMD). For ages these companies have been engadged in cut-throat competition, trying to bet the other in every possible way, resulting in great advancement of the Graphics Technology and more joy for gamers. But all is at stake, if the rumor turns out to be true!
The rumor that nvidia and ati , behind the scenes, work at a joint policy to inflate prices of the overhyped cards they churn out, keeping the prices at a certain level to maximize profits.
An email Nvidia sent by Nvidia senior VP of marketing, Dan Vivoli, to ATI’s president and COO, Dave Orton made public by the judge in an ongoing anti-trust suit against the two companies reveals that they both see eye-to-eye on prices. Namely, that they should be higher:
I really think we should work harder together on the marketing front. As you and I have talked about, even though we are competitors, we have the common goal of making our category a well positioned, respected playing field. $5 and $8 stocks are a result of no respect.
If this is true, then i believe that us gamers have been made to spend more money than we shud have, meanwhile engaging us in the old Nvidia Vs Ati battle! But none the less, the battle does lead to better and better advancement in technology for gaming and graphics, leaving us awestruck with more eye-candy than our eyes can handle
